Nukpui Sylvester is a SOON reader from Ghana. He learned that people, even those in our own family, can reject us. But Jesus always loves us and looks after us.

Left behind

My father died when I was six years old. After this happened, I went to stay with my older brother and went to junior high school. But when it was time for me to go to senior high school, my brother disowned me. He said he would not take care of me any more. All my friends went to senior school and I was left behind.

One Saturday evening, my friend Kyei said, "Why don't you pray (talk to God) about your problem?" So I prayed and asked God that someone would take care of me.

God answered my prayer!

The very next day, my mother called me on the phone. I had not seen her for many years, but suddenly she phoned me! She told me, "Come back home to my house and you can go to senior school."

God answered my prayer! I went back home to my mother and am now in senior high school.

I learned that day that, even if someone in this world disowns us, we do not need to worry. God never disowns us. He loves us and wants the very best for us. He sent Jesus Christ into the world to die and take the punishment for our wrong doing. That is the best thing anyone has ever done for us. He can always be our best friend, a friend that sticks closer than a brother.*
